The KFC Back of House Development team is responsible for architecting, selecting, designing and developing solutions that support restaurant managers, team members, and franchise owners across 4000 US KFC restaurants. We are looking for a dynamic leader of this organization to help lead us develop our next generation platform who has experience designing and developing cloud-native solutions and mobile applications.

Leadership and Management (60%)

* This role will oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of applications:
* Provide leadership, vision and direction to the Back of House team to ensure it will contribute to the company achieving its goals.
* Develop productive relationships with cross-functional leaders throughout KFC to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.
* Define and enhance methodologies and practices for the application life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience of continuous improvement.
* Ensure that applications processes (including those of external service providers) are conducted in line with our policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines.
* Manage the application development team, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps.
* Implement and manage application life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks.
* Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization.
* Conduct regular surveys of stakeholder satisfaction with applications, publish the results and, where necessary, implement action plans to improve satisfaction.

Application Governance, Strategy and Delivery (30%)

* Ensure the applications cost-effectively meet the needs of the business as a whole by:
* Overseeing the assessment of the technical and business fitness of the application portfolio and their associated costs and risks.
* Facilitating the application governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that applications must support.
* Working with stakeholders and the application governance council to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the application budget.
* Working with stakeholders to accomplish this application work in a way that improves the business and technical fitness of the application portfolio and minimizes its ongoing support costs.
* Overseeing the application organization's successful delivery of these business outcomes in partnership with business colleagues.
* Overseeing benefits realization to ensure that business outcomes are achieved.
* Overseeing support activities in conjunction with the Infrastructure and Operations team to ensure the applications perform well in production.
* Overseeing development of processes and tools in conjunction with Infrastructure and Operations to automate the handoff of code releases from development to operations (DevOps).
* Working with the KFC Brand Security Lead and Yum Global Technology Risk Management teams to ensure that the organization's applications are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

Budgeting, Finance and Administration (10%)

Optimizing the cost, risk, and value of applications throughout their lifecycle. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Back of House Development team and their associated expenses. This also includes assisting in making appropriate budget requests needed to fulfill the Back of House roadmap vision. Identification and management of 3rd party consultants and solutions providers to ensure they are on budget, on time, and on quality.

* Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.

* Proficiency in process formulation and improvement.


* In-depth knowledge and experience of the following:
* Financial accounting and reporting practices applicable to applications, costs and risks.
* IT contracts and their likely cost implications.
* Engagement with procurement and legal contract advisors for additional information.
* IT applications, operations, service and support organizations.
* Data processing, analysis and quality management tools.
* Development and implementation of processes and policies.
* Lean IT, agile development, and DevOps principles and frameworks.


The following experience is considered essential:

* Managing a team of at least 4 members in application development, implementation or management, with additional employees reporting to those 4 members.
* 5+ years of experience in Software design/development, mobile applications, application architecture, project management, software integration, and automated software testing.
* Experience managing complex projects either with virtual team members from multiple organizations and /or geographically dispersed teams.
* Strong track record for delivering high quality, successful products.
* Strong understanding of an agile software development process is a must, and experience with DevOps is a plus.
* Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing, cohesive team.
* Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior leaders in a fortune 500 company.

Preferred Skills:

* The following experience is considered desirable but not mandatory:
* Experience developing solutions in Azure and AWS.
* Mobile application development and deployment experience.
* Experience working in the restaurant industry.
* Experience in managing external IT service providers.
* Experience managing the risk and cost implications of IT contracts or contract negotiations.
* Membership of professional organizations, trade or user groups and a pattern of regular attendance at industry conferences to enhance knowledge of current technology.
