Purpose of the Job:

Contributes to KFC US success by leading development of outstanding restaurant prototype designs that deliver the KFC customer experience and brand positioning while meeting established architectural standards. Brings architectural, design expertise and executional insight to KFC's prototypes and new formats to fuel the development growth engine and drive innovation for new restaurant development.

Job Responsibilities

Prototype Designs (Architectural)

* Lead the innovation on prototypes for alternate formats and non-traditional formats (including the Back of House). Work with cross function leads to arrive at optimized solutions in sync with overall brand and development strategy.
* Drive the capex analysis in partnership with construction team and apply for the various asset prototypes. Work with concept design manager to arrive at a robust and optimized investment solution for new concepts.
* Prepare presentation documents/decks relating to all phases of design. Ability to present to Franchisees, corporate executive level leaders and design consultants.
* Demonstrate significant business acumen with a commercial mindset to balance creativity and cost.
* Support the Brand Design Manager in developing MEP prototypes for all asset formats to strengthen the initiatives such as Build Smarter and Building Green based upon Global Brand Standards and provide recommendation towards achieving system wide impact on Unit Economics.

Change Management

* Develop, maintain and support new restaurant prototype drawings.
* Own KFC Architectural standards, lead the change management and communication for all prototypes across the system including vendors by providing coordinated market-ready drawings, specifications etc.
* Partner with internal teams to closely align design prototypes while proactively tracking and communicating all scope and spec changes in a fluid environment.
* Lead the platform (backend) http://kfcplans.com to drive change management. Work closely with other functions from the business development including architecture team to insure the information on the platform (development and design) is up-to-date and adequate.

BOH Specialist

* Work closely with cross function teams (OPS and Equipment Engineering) to understand ongoing innovation and absorb it into the prototype layouts.
* Partner on ops-simplification initiatives and formulate the strategy to implement into the existing set of restaurants from the store design perspective.
* Work with supply chain (RSCS) to drive information and alignment on BOH equipment as applicable.

Plan reviews and Design approvals

* Support & prioritize the pipeline projects by reviewing new restaurant design submittals.
* Work closely with RFDM's during the pre-design stage, generating explorations basis current prototypes to aid finalizing potential sites.
* Provides clear, effective and timely communication of design direction and changes to external consultants, Regional Franchisee Development Managers (RFDM) and franchisee teams.

Knowledge & Skill Required

Education/Certifications

* BS in Architecture, Interior Design or related field.

o Related Professional registrations/certifications are a plus

Experience

* 10+ years of Architectural/ Interior design experience
* Minimum of 6 years' experience in a corporate environment managing architecture and design projects, process and people for a multi-chain franchise system with demonstrated leadership abilities across all three categories and able to show tangible results
* CADD proficiency with Autodesk AutoCad required, Revit experience a plus.
* Strong portfolio that demonstrates expertise in retail interiors
* Excellent inter personal skills, being able to work with people at all levels within as well as outside of the organization
* Serve as an advocate of the Brand and recognition culture
* Proficiency in software such as Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe Acrobat etc.
* Project management experience specific to building design, permitting and general construction administration.
* Managing external architecture, design and engineering consultants.

Skills

* Ability to balance design with operational needs and budgets resulting in successful execution of restaurant environments.
* Skilled in written and verbal communication of design issues.
* Knowledge of architectural details and specifications for document production and coordination.
* Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
* Current working knowledge of health codes, accessibility compliance and building codes.
* Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
* Intellectual curiosity and strong personal accountability to meet and exceed goals, tracking performance towards objectives.
* Strong work ethic with the ability to address multiple projects with a positive mindset.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
